Sheila Vaz with Shammi Kapoor in ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha’

You will remember Sheila Vaz as the dancer of the fifties who featured in many hit songs and worked with great directors like Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor. Originally from Goa but having grown up in Bombay, she featured in many hit films like CID, Shree 420, Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Chote Nawab and Mr and Mrs 55. She quit films after her marriage and currently lives in Mumbai.
Here are some of her most famous songs :

Ramaiyya Vastavaiya (Shree 420)
One of her most famous song in which she featured along with dance director Master Satyanarayan.

Ghar Aaja Ghir Aaye Badra (Chote Nawab)
One of the most beautiful semi classical song sung by Lata and composed by R D Burman. Although Pancham had been assisting his father earlier, this was his debut film as an independent music director. The story goes that S D Burman and Lata had some misunderstanding and had not worked together for almost two years; however for this song S D Burman personally called Lata and asked her to sing the song as he thought only she could do justice to this beautiful composition. So effectively this song got them working together again.

Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar (CID)
This beautiful O P Nayyar composition featured Sheila Vaz along with Dev Anand and Shakila. The actor singing the male part is Shyam, an assistant director to Guru Dutt who also played Dutt’s friend in Pyaasa. The song was shot at Worly seaface in Bombay and was choreographed by Zohra Sehgal.

Thandi Hawa Kali Ghata (Mr and Mrs 55)
Another beautiful Geeta Dutt – Madhubala song.

Chhupne Wale Samne Aa (Tumsa Nahi dekha)
