Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon is a 1963 Nasir Hussain production and became a super hit at the box office.
As expected of a Nasir Hussain film – the story revolves around a lost and found saga blended with beautiful music, romance and comedy and action towards the end.
“Differences force Jamuna (Veena) to leave her husband (Colonel Sahib) (Wasti) along with son Mohan. But she is not permitted to take Mohan along – so she plots his abduction and disappears from her husband’s life. Years later, Mohan (Joy Mukherjee) has become a handsome young man and lives happily with his mother in Srinagar. One day Mohan goes to Delhi along with cab driver friend Kamala (Ram Avatar) and meets the beautiful Mona (Asha Parekh) and soon both fall in love. However Mona’s uncle (Colonel Sahib) wants her to marry the foreign returned Deefu (Rajendra Nath).
Mona visits Srinagar alongwith her friends and Mohan also follows her there (sitting on top of the cab). Then Mona’s Uncle – (Colonel sahib) reaches Srinagar with the breaking news that Mohan has been found -now named Ramesh-Enter the villain Ramesh(Pran) and a thrilling climax follows…”
This was Nasir Hussain’s second film after he turned producer-director by setting up his own production house – Nasir Hussain Films. The first one was Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961).
Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon starred the son of Nasir’s mentor Sashadhar Mukherjee’s – Joy Mukherjee.Other Nasir Hussain regulars in this film were Asah Parekh, Rajendranath, Pran, Wasti, Tabassum and RamAvatar.
It is a typical Nasir Hussain entertainer and neither do you have to think much about things happening by coincidence and nor should you indulge in any logical analysis. You just have to enjoy the songs , the script , the dialogues and the comic situations. Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh have both given a good performance.Rajendra Nath , Ram Avatar , Indra Bansal are good in the comic acts. One particular comic scene where Ram Avatar flirts with Indra Bansal has been executed very well.
However what made the film a super hit was the music by O P Nayyar and included some beautiful Rafi Saheb solos like “Laakhon Hain Nigahon Mein”, “Banda Parwar Thaam Lo Jigar” and “Aanchal Mein Saja Lena”.
Other hit songs included “Dekho Bijli Dole Bin Badal Ke” , “Aji Kibla Mohtarma” , “Aankhon Se Jo Utri Hai ” , “Mujhe pyar mein”and “Zulf Ki Chaon Mein”.
